Maureen first came to Ngukurr when she was a naked picaninny. She came from the Limmen Bight when her father passed away. She went to school at the old mission, and can remember sitting down with her old grandmother while her mother worked as a cook at the Mission House. She used to live in the dormitory away from her parents, because at that time they were told to forget about their own language. Maureen was married at the Ngukurr Church to a man from Nutwood Downs.
Maureen is now a senior member of Ngukurr Artists with many many stories to tell and paint. She is an enthusiastic artist with her own developed style. Maureen sells her paintings through Ngukurr Arts.
