Joyce was born 1951 at Roper Valley Station and went to School at Ngukurr. Later on she went to Kormilda College and went on to attend the first teaching assistant course in NT. She worked at Ngukurr School then furthered her qualifications at Swinbourne Tech at Hawthorn for one year. She married, worked and travelled more in West Australia. Joyce now lives at Ngukurr and markets her work through Ngukurr Arts.
